ONYX MODE was born from a transformative journey to South Africa in 2018.
What began as a trip quickly became something much greater a deeper appreciation for the creativity, craftsmanship, and entrepreneurial spirit found throughout Africa. Inspired by the artisans, markets, and cultural experiences encountered along the way, founder Antoinette Sullivan returned home with a vision: to create a brand that would connect customers directly to authentic African-made goods while supporting the talented makers behind them.
That vision became ONYX MODE.
Since its founding, ONYX MODE has grown into a destination for handcrafted jewelry, waist beads, accessories, skincare, and cultural goods sourced directly from artisans across Africa. Unlike mass-produced products, many of our pieces are handmade in small batches using traditional techniques and skills that have been passed down through generations.
Our commitment to authenticity extends beyond sourcing products. In 2025, Antoinette and her husband spent 35 days in Ghana working directly with artisans, visiting workshops, strengthening partnerships, sourcing new collections, and collaborating on future designs. These relationships allow ONYX MODE to offer products with a genuine connection to the people, communities, and traditions that create them.
